Terrazzo Table - The Future

Terrazzo Table and Bench Tops - Maple Street Pedestrian Plaza
Date of Completion: Summer 2012
Commissioning Agency: City of Escondido, CA
Dimensions: Two table tops 3’ x 3’, seven benches 1’ x 2’ x 20”
Medium: Concrete block and cementaious terrazzo
Project Description: Two terrazzo picnic tables are sited under a trellis at the South end of the plaza. They feature terrazzo inlays that reference Escondido’s past and future depicting farm equipment, orchards, the night sky as seen from nearby Palomar Observatory and water.
Design Team: Schmidt Design Group, Kimley-Horn and Associates, JSW Engineers, Graphic Solutions, Aquatic Design Group, Burkett & Wong and West Coast Geotechnical Consultants
Award: 2013 Project of the Year Award, American Public Works Association San Diego and Imperial Counties Chapter.

Stacked Stone Furniture – Maple Street Pedestrian Plaza
Date of Completion: Summer 2012
Commissioning Agency: City of Escondido, CA
Dimensions: Two groups 20’ x 15’
Medium: Poured in place concrete with stacked stone veneer and quartzite seats and backs.
Project Description: Arranged like furniture in a living room, two groups of chairs, sofas, end tables and coffee tables provide a comfortable setting for visitors to the plaza to relax and put their feet up.

Plaza Water Feature Seat Wall - Maple Street Pedestrian Plaza
Date of Completion: Summer 2012
Commissioning Agency: City of Escondido, CA
Dimensions: 40’ x 38” high
Medium: Poured in place concrete, ceramic tile and glass.
Project Description: Adjacent to a small interactive water feature the colorful tile and glass seat-wall recalls the water that was brought to the area by the Escondido flume completed in 1905.
